FILIPINO prospect Jerwin ?Pretty Boy? Ancajas of Davao City is now excited to challenge International Boxing Federation (IBF) world super flyweight champion McJoe Arroyo of Puerto Rico.
?Nalipay ko ug excited na kaayo ko kay mao ni ang dugay na nakong pangandoy na maka dula ug world title-fight (I?m happy and so excited now because this has been my long dream to be able to fight in a world title),? said Ancajas at the MP Boxing Gym in Davao City.
Ancajas? manager Joven Jimenez said that the title-fight will be promoted here in the Philippines by international boxing promoter Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing soon before 90 days after today?s purse bid procedure was held at the IBF headquarters in New Jersey, USA.
?Baka sa Manila ang laban at mas maaga ito gaganapin (Maybe the fight will be held in Manila sooner),? said Jimenez.
Sampson Boxing now has 15 days to submit the executed contracts (no later than February 17, 2016) and the fight must take place within 90 days or by May 2, 2016.
Ancajas (24W-1L-1D-16 KOs) has been under the promotion of the MP Boxing Promotions of 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao since 2012.
He had two fights last year. He first scored a 9th round knockout against Juan Purisima at the Lagao Gym in General Santos City last May 30. Ancajas was then waiting for a title eliminator but that did not push through.
And so to keep him in top shape, Ancajas was included in the final and 13th edition of the Tibay ng Pinoy Boxing Promotion held on Nov. 13 at the Philippine Navy Gym of the Bonifacio Naval Station in Taguig City.
Ancajas showed his world-class style by stopping Paul Apolinario only in just the first round.
?Handang handa na talaga akong lumaban last year pa (I?m now ready to fight since last year),? said the 24-year old southpaw.
Ancajas, a former PAN Pacific super flyweight champion, has been sparring with fellow southpaws Jovylito Aligarbes and Mark Anthony Geraldo at the MP Davao Gym.
Jimenez, who is also a trainer and a former member of the PH national amateur boxing team, has been closely watching Ancajas? training while MP Davao Gym?s chief trainer Raides ?Nonoy? Neri is also monitoring the daily routine.
?Kahit nasa Gensan si Coach Nonoy, araw-araw naman siyang tumatawag sa amin ni Jerwin (Although Coach Nonoy is in Gensan, he call?s us every day),? said Jimenez.
Neri is also one of the Filipino assistant coaches of Pacquiao, who has already started his training in Gensan for his final fight against Timothy Bradley on April 9 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Arroyo (17-0, 8 KOs), who is from Fajardo, Puerto Rico will be making his first mandatory defense against Ancajas
Arroyo, a 30-year-old southpaw won the championship last July with a 10-round technical decision over Arthur ?King? Villanueva of Bacolod. ? LITO DELOS REYES
