Former world champion Marvin Sonsona has returned to the gym after a long absence and has begun light training under Dodie Boy Agrabio, brother of veteran trainer Jhun Agrabio who will take over after Sonsona gets back into shape.

He currently looks heavy and above the featherweight limit when he scored a majority decision in a ten round bout against Jonathan Arellano at the StubHub Center in Carson City, California on June 6 last year before he turned down lucrative offers from international promoter, manager and matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz and Filipino partner Sammy Gello-ani and preferred to hangout with his friends in GenSan.

Gelloani told us Sonsona appeared to be serious in his comeback effort but they will ?wait and see? whether he has at long last given up his wild and wooly ways.

He said if Sonsona shapes up, they will give him a fight on the undercard of the Johnreil Casimero mandatory rematch against IBF flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng of Thailand who won a foul-infested, ugly bout over Casimero in Thailand last June 27.

Sonsona is best remembered for his spectacular 3rd round knockout of foemer world champion Akufumi Shimoda of Japan to win the vacant WBO International featherweight title in Macau on February 22, 2014 which Top Rank promoter Bob Arum described as a classic.
