EDEN SONSONA BACK IN THE RING AFTER SENSATIONAL 2ND ROUND TKO OVER UNBEATEN MEXICAN ADRIAN ESTRELLA

Southpaw Eden Sonsona whose promising career has had its fair share of ups and downs, returns to the ring at the Mandaluyong City Gym, a hotbed of boxing that was the home of eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao during his early years, when he clashes with rugged Vergel Nebran in a Gerry Penalosa Promotions card on February 12.

Sonsona scored a huge upset with a spectacular 2nd round TKO of previously unbeaten Mexican prospect Adrian Estrella to win the vacant World Boxing Council super featherweight Silver title before a stunned crowd at the Auditorio Miguel Barragan in San Luis Potosi, Mexico on May 16 last year and is keen on breaking into the world rankings once again.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman described Sonsona?s stoppage as ?an unbelievable knockout? in a fight arranged by Gabriel ?Bebot? Elorde who said the Mexican promoter wanted a rematch and that he was negotiating for a bigger purse than the reported offer of $15,000.

The WBC quoted Estrella who had a record 20 knockouts in 21 wins that his loss was merely ?a bad day at the office, but he'll get up, sit down, do his homework and he'll learn from this, not allowing it to dent his confidence- and he will fulfill his ambition of becoming WBC world Champion.?

The WBC reported that Estrella conceded that defeat didn't cross his mind, but mused, ?Every single fighter falls eventually. You must get up, learn and keep progressing.?

The 22 year old super featherweight added ?I think that his blow came during a moment in which I wasn't focused enough. I lost my head and then I paid a high prize for my over confidence.?

To the WBC, Estrella?s losing his undefeated, unblemished record ?has proved a chastening experience, but it was also a timely wake up call, he's still utterly undaunted and totally focused on becoming a WBC Champion.?

The 26-year-old Sonsona who is also from the General Santos hometown of Pacquiao and has a record of 34-6-2 with 12 knockouts, is not expected to have things his own way as Nebran is a rugged fight who has fought some of the best including former world champions Cristian Mijares, Tomas Rojas and undefeated Rey Vargas and Jessie Magdaleno which should provide him with the confidence and experience to face Sonsona.

Nebran who is from the Elorde Stable in Paranaque has a record of 14-11-1 with 9 knockouts but his record can be somewhat misleading since he fought and lost to world caliber opponents.
Sonsona is ranked No. 6 featherweight in the last ratings of the Games and Amusements Board while Nebran is rated No. 13 in the lightweight division.
