Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer has praised the members of Team Philippines who paid a courtesy call on him at the Golden Boy office in Los Angeles, Wednesday

The fighters who will battle six top Mexicans including WBO world champions Daniel Ponce De Leon and Jhonny Gonzalez in the Philippines-Mexico World Cup on August 11 at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, California included undefeated emerging ring sensation Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista, former WBC super flyweight champion Gerry Penalosa, superflyweight Z “The Dream” Gorres, AJ “Bazooka” Banal, Bert Batawang and Philippine bantamweight champion Michael Domingo. They were accompanied by trainer Edito “Ala” Villamor.

Schaefer told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today “I have to say that these are truly nice and polite kids. They have the killer instincts in the ring but outside the ring they are true gentlemen.”

Schafer said he could “see the pride they have to be able to fight for their country. The spark in their eyes leaves no doubt. They have one mission and one mission only and that is to bring the World Cup to the Philippines.”

The Golden Boy CEO added “the people of your great country can be proud to have such outstanding ambassadors of the sport representing them here and I am sure the people of the Philippines will be watching and cheering on their team.”

Schaefer said he was convinced they will have a sellout crowd at the Arco Arena on August 11 and that he “expects a huge turnout from the Philippines.”
