Davao bets in Mayor Peter Miguel Nat?l Age Group chess tourney

TOP PLAYERS from Davao City led by 2015 ASEAN Age-Group triple silver medalist Irish Yngayo will see action in the Mayor Peter Miguel National Age-Group Chess Championships Mindanao Leg slated on January 8-10 at the Gaisano Grand Citimall in Koronadal City.

The other early birds from Davao are Batang Pinoy Grand Finals gold medalist Earl Rhay Mantilla, 2015 Philippine National Games Mindanao medalist Zsuzsa Grace Tabudlong and her sister Alisa Galliamova, Rhobie Shayne Benogsodan, Verby Jay Quiachon, Michael John Varquez, Norman James Varquez, Gino Ascunsion, Tasheen Saludsong, James Bantugan and international campaigner John Marvin Miciano.

Koronadal will have Chrisus Joshua Sarchez, Chrisus Joseph Sarchez and Kriztian Roger Magdugo while Panabo will be bannered by Palarong Pambansa gold medalist Japheth Aaron Caresoa and Carl Zirex Sato.

The other early registrants are General Santos City?s Ricky Rafols Jr. and Rea Jean Rafols, Midsayap?s Nathalie Liscano, Cybil Jay Ibias, Renz Philip Madarang, Amber Juneeza Ambor, Christian Angelo Ibias and Eugene Jauhari Ambor.

The categories are the Under 20, Under 18, Under 16, Under 14, Under 12 and Under 10 for boys and girls.

GM Jayson Gonzales, Executive Director of the organizing National Chess Federation (NCFP) will be conducting a 30-board simultaneous exhibition game to selected participants and also a chess clinic to all present during the opening at 9 a.m.

Round 1 will immediately start at 1 p.m.

?The Mindanao winner will advance to the National Finals which will is the qualifying event for the ASEAN Age Group + Chess Championships in Pattaya, Thailand,? said NCFP Region 11 Director IA James Infiesto.

Congressman Neri Colmenares, NCFP Vice-President for Visayas and Chairman Committee Grassroots Development & Promotions will be the guest speaker. He will also award the cash prizes and medals together with Mayor Miguel and Gonzales.
