When Filipino boxing icon, Manny Pacquiao lost his mega-bout to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last May 2 in Las Vegas, the whole country fell in depression.

Binibining Pilipinas Universe and the country's representative to the 2015 Miss Universe, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach allayed her country's pain with a tweet that was both appreciated and criticized by many.

?Kalma lang guys. Ako bahala. Babawi tayo sa Miss Universe!!"

(Keep calm guys. I got you. We will bounce back in the Miss Universe.)

Labeled as cocky and overconfident with her tweet following Pacquiao's lost, Wurtzbach admitted in an interview that her social media post was timed badly and that "she meant well" when she said that.

Fast forward to seven months after MayPac and with the eyes of the whole country and the world on her, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach made good on her tweet, winning the 2015 Miss Universe in Las Vegas Sunday night, the same city that hosted Mayweather-Pacquiao.

The 26-year old beauty from Cagayan De Oro City, some 160 plus miles from Pacquiao's hometown of General Santos City wowed the judges, crowd and the TV audience with her poise and charm in the most prestigious beauty pageant in the world.

Despite an early confusion brought about by pageant host Steve Harvey announcing the wrong winner, Wurtzbach becomes only the 3rd Filipina to win the crown after victories by Gloria Diaz in 1969 and Margarita Moran in 1973.

After her rightful coronation, Pacquiao congratulated Wurtzbach via his Facebook account.

"Congratulations to Miss Philippines. May God Bless you."

Jinkee Pacquiao, the boxer's wife, also congratulated their kababayan in a message sent to Philboxing.

"Congratulations to Pia Wutzbach. She deserved to win. Indeed, with God nothing is impossible. In God's perfect time He gave her the crown."
