REIGNING World Boxing Federation (WBF) Asia Pacific bantamweight champion Kenny ?Singwangcha? Demecillo is unfazed and ready to face his challenger former International Boxing Organization (IBO) world super flyweight champion Edrin ?The Sting? Dapudong in their title-fight slated tonight at the Almendras gym.
Both fighters made their weight yesterday at 118 pounds at the Abreeza Mall.
?Wala ko nahadlok sa iyaha. Mas excited gani ko kay dati siyang world champion,? said Demecillo (10-3-1).
The 23-year old Demecillo, also current WBA Oceania bantamweight champion, will be making his first title-defense of the vacant crown he won by an 8th round technical knockout against arch-rival Darryl Basadre last Sept. 26 at the Gaisano Mall in General Santos City.
Dapudong (31-6-0), however, is confident that he can beat Demecillo in their 10-round fight promoted by the Sonshine Sports Management Inc.
?Hindi ko lang masasabi kung paano bastat gagawin ko lang ang lahat sa itaas ng ring bukas?, said Dapudong, a two-time world super flyweight champion, who will only be making his third fight in the bantamweight division.
Pitted in the main supporting bout are former WBO Oriental featherweight champion Lorenzo ?Thunderbolt? Villanueva (21-1-0) and Jerry Castroverde (6-2-0) also of the Omega Boxing Club from Cebu for 10 rounds. Both of them tipped the scales at 129 lbs. yesterday.
?It is free to the public on a first come, first serve basis only and we will start early tomorrow at 5 p.m. because we will be sending the tape of the fights immediately to the US,? said SSMI Executive Producer Jun Cardona.
International evangelist Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, who is still in Los Angeles, also wants to see the fights via satellite.
Three other 10-rounders will also be featured in the undercard. Former WBO Oriental minimumweight champion Rommel ?Little Assasin? Asenjo of SSMI takes on Lester Jun ?The Silent Penetrator? Pronco (9-11-1) of Bukidnon while undefeated Roskie ?Kapre? Cristobal (10-0-0) of SSMI fights Ryan Quimbo (4-10-1) of Cebu.
Ex-WBO Oriental lightweight and WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight champion Jose ?The Bomber? Ocampo (18-9-1) of Alabel, Sarangani will face ex-WBO Asia Pacific Youth lightweight champion Nelson ?Mr. Fantastik? Gulpe (8-6-0) of Bislig.
Also pitted in the undercard are Arnold Garde vs. Rodel Tejares (8 rds.-107 lbs.); Vergel Deguma vs. Paolo Perono (6 rds.-114 lbs.); Michael Javier vs. Dingdong Quinones (6 rds.-112 lbs.); Marvin Masong vs. ER Borbon (4 rds.-112 lbs.); Alvin Lagumbay vs. Ronnie Buscato (4 rds.-135 lbs.); Gerald Alvarez vs. Noel Rosa (4 rds.-105 lbs.). ?
