Novel moves and brilliant maneuvering are expected to highlight hostilities in the coming Php1.5 million 2nd Manny Pacquiao Random Chess Tournament which unfurls this Saturday at the SM Mall, General Santos City.

The early entries are Grandmasters Joey Antonio, Darwin Laylo, Richard Bitoon and Jayson Gonzales to mention a few, in this high caliber nine-round Swiss System tournament, sponsored by boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao.

Adding spice to the tournament, organized by the MP Chess Organization headed by Chess Legend Eugene Torre, is the presence, too, of International Masters Emmanuel Senador. Rolando Nolte, Jan Emmanuel Garcia, Barlo Nadera, Ronald Dableo, Joel Pimentel, Kim Steven Yap and Yves Ranola, among others. More titled players are expected to join.

GM Antonio and company, according to Torre, are entered in both the Individual and Team events.

Team play is a two-day affair set December 14 and 15. Individual competition will be played on December 16.

Participating teams are only allowed one GM or one IM in their line ups. An average ELO 2100 rating is required for a team to participate. This will make the event competitive and will give all teams the chance to win.

A huge Php 400,000.00 awaits the winner in team, with Php 220,000,00 and Php130,000.00 at stake for the silver and bronze medal finishers.

Big winners in the individual event take home Php 50,000, Php 30,000 and Php 20,000 respectively.
