By all accounts, former five division world champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire is in great shape for his clash with Mexico?s Cesar Juarez who is ranked No. 1 super bantamweight by the World Boxing Organization while Donaire is ranked No. 2 in Puerto Rico on December 12, Manila Time.
The fight will be for Juarez? WBO International title in case the WBO fails to uphold its decision to strip undefeated two-time Cuban Olympic gold medalist Guillermo Rigondeaux of his title.
Donaire has made it clear that neither the title nor the purse money are that important to him. All he wants is a chance to show what the rejuvenated Nonito Donaire looks like.
Even his wife Rachel who tells it like it is, had warned Nonito that if he continued with his old ways of not training hard and watching his weight, she wouldn?t support him. Nonito obviously took her warning seriously and by his own account has trained like never before, including twice-a-day workouts.
His father/trainer ?Dodong? Donaire borders on the ecstatic when talking about his son?s training camp and says its far better than any other training camp in his career which certainly augurs well for Donaire?s quest of another title.
Fight fans will have a chance to see Suarez in action in his clash with Juan Carlos Sanchez Jr last July 25 when Juarez won the WBC Intercontinental super bantamweight title by a lopsided decision with highlights on ?The Main Event? this Saturday at 8:30 p.m. on Pinoy Boy Office (PBO) over Sky Cable, nationwide with a replay at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The show will also provide a glimpse of Donaire?sparring partners Fidel Navarette and Fred Bowen in action and a telephone interview with ?Dodong? Donaire who said the two tough sparring partners have been pushing Nonito to the limit which he believes is good.
Even Nonito?s wife Rachel; who had threatened to give up on supporting his boxing career if he continued in the old lackadaisical fashion in training told us, Nonito is now training harder than ever and she is amazed at how good he looks.
ABS-CBN will telecast the fight at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday December 13 over its pre-eminent Channel 2.
