TEAM Pacman-Labangal of General Santos City made a good start by winning all four bouts at the opening of the 3rd Manny Pacquiao Sports Challenge Mindanao Amateur Boxing tournament at the Robinson?s Place Gensan.

Fifteen-year old King Constantino Rigor, a silver medalist in the just-concluded Batang Pinoy National Games in Cebu, opened up Pacman?s campaign via a split decision over Sarangani Province?s Jefrey Gimpayan in the school boys 40-42 kg. division.

It was followed by a unanimous decision victory by Reymark Alicaba, 16 against Iligan?s Ariel Tan in the 46-48 kg. Richard Bulacan, 16 then scored the day?s only stoppage with a technical knockout win over Tagum?s Mark Darullo in 1:10 of the second round.

In the final match, 20-year old Lloyd Seloterio survived against the attack of Malungon?s Carlito Antaran to escape with a split decision in the Elite Boys 52-56 kg. category. Seloterio landed more telling blows despite hurting his knee due to a slip near the ropes.

?Magandang simula ito, sana ay tuloy-tuloy na,? said Coach Renato Moreno, a former member of the PH national team.

Pacman-Labangal is composed of boxers from Digos City but is backed up by Barangay Chair Lorelie Pacquiao, sister-in-law of 8-time world division champion Manny Pacquiao.

Sarangani and Cagayan de Oro City, on the other hand, both posted three wins against one loss to also make their presence felt in the 5-day event organized by the Manny Pacquiao Sports Association (MPSA).

Sarangani?s Dave Mark Apolinario and Nove Mar Hapos both prevailed against the fighters from the Davao City Boxing Club. Apolinario outpunched Curt Nielgy Manigsasa in the school boys 46-48 kg. , while Hapos ousted Mark Lin Itim in the Youth boys 46-49 kg.

Rodrigo Bilingin also won for Sarangani against Backyard Region 12?s Garin Diagan by a split in the Youth Boys flyweight (49-52 kg.).

Flashy Jummilardo Ogayre, however, prevented a shutout for Davao with a split over CDO?s Ryan Sambrano in the Elite Boys 52-55 kg. Ogayre, a student of University of Mindanao, started strong in the first two rounds.

Meanwhile, Backyard composed of independent boxers of Gensan also scored two wins courtesy of Jomel Brillo (38-40 kg.) and Harley Davidson Tumandan (44-46 kg.)

Brillo crushed Lutayan?s Marvin Aniversario by a split while Tumanda drubbed Digos? Almer Rigor by a unanimous decision.
