GEN. SANTOS CITY ? Former WBO Asia Pacific super flyweight champion Mark Anthony Geraldo of Bukidnon stop the winning streak of local bet Jilbert Gomera via a 6th round in the inaugural live event of the ?Blow by Blow Reloaded? held Saturday night at the City Gym here.
The 24-year old Geraldo immediately showed his dominance in the first four rounds as he kept Gomera at bay with his stinging right jabs.
But Geraldo suffered a nasty cut on his right eyebrow in the fifth round due to an accidental head butt followed by a jab. Blood continued to flow at the end of the 5th round.
The fight turned out to be more bloodied in the 6th canto as Gomera also suffered his own cut on his right eye. Geraldo then knocked down Gomera with a right. But Gomera quickly stood up to resume fighting.
But he was again downed by another left-right combination by Geraldo.
Gomera tried to stand up again but referee Ronnie Mondejar finally put a stop in 2:39 of the 6th round.
It was only Gomera?s first loss after 10 straight wins with no draw while Geraldo improved his record to 32 wins with 15 KOs, 6 loss and 3 draws.
?Kahit kulang talaga siya sa hustong preparasyon, pero lumaban pa rin siya kasi alam niyang lamang pa rin siya sa experience laban kay Geraldo,? said manager Leonil Lazarito.
Geraldo is already a veteran of various championship fights. In his last outing, the southpaw lost by a 12-round unanimous decision to Japanese Takuma Inoue for the vacant Orient Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) super flyweight title last July 6 at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
He previously won by a UD against Efrain Perez of Mexico last July 19, 2014 at the Cotai Arena in Macao. He dethroned then-undefeated Jerwin Ancajas by a majority decision on March 17, 2012 to capture the WBO Asia Pacific Youth super flyweight title at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City.
The other two 8-rounders also ended up via the short route.
Jhaleel Payao and Salatiel Amit, both from the Omega Boxing Gym of Cebu also stopped their separate rivals.
Payao connected a right to stop Elvic Bicoy in 1:40 of the 3rd round while Amit landed more telling blows to force Ian Ligutan to quit in 1:17 of the second round.
Two other Omega boxers Jimboy Haya and Filjun Taneo stopped their foes in the 6-rounders.
Haya survived against a never-say-die Ebon Loperez in 1:47 of the 6th round. Loperez came back strong in the 3rd and 4th round but slowed down in the last two rounds. He also failed to beat the count of the referee to the dismay of his corner.
Taneo, on the other hand, damaged the left eye of Ronnel Toquero with a deep cut in 2:37 of the second round and was advised by ring physician Edgar Tan not to continue fighting.
But Jay-R Aliasot and Alex Caoktoy, also from Cebu, had contrasting results. Aliasot bowed to Joe Tejones by a TKO in the 6th round while Caoktoy settled to a majority draw with Erniel Campano.
Promoter Manny Pinol said the fights will have its initial telecast next month at ABC TV 5.
Producer/host Manny Pacquiao, however, failed to attend his initial boxing presentation after accompanying Vice President Jejomar Binay in Sarangani Province and gracing the blessing of his boxing gym in Digos City.
"Blow By Blow Reloaded" is a re-do of a popular television sports program which made Filipino boxing icon Pacquiao a household name over a decade ago. ? LITO DELOS REYES
