NEWLY-CROWNED World Boxing Federation Asia Pacific featherweight champion Rimar Metuda survived against the veteran Jaime Barcelona to score a unanimous decision in the main event of the anniversary boxing presentation of the San Andres Fishing Industries (SAFI) held at its compound in Barangay Tambler, General Santos City last Friday.

Metuda, 27, tried to mix it up with Barcelona, who kept on eluding him in their 10-round bout.

In the 3rd canto, the 37-year old Barcelona tried running around Metuda, who later still managed to land left-right combinations in the next three rounds.

Metuda slowed down in the 8th to 10th rounds as Barcelona still kept on eluding while his throwing jabs.

?Beterano dyud siya, pero naluya pud ko kay nasira akong tiyan ganina lang. Wala koy puersa ug kusog,? said Metuda, who remained undefeated in nine fights with four knockouts, no loss or draw.

Barcelona of Leonil Lazarito Stable from Bukidnon, suffered his 59th defeat against 38 wins and 1 draw.

Sanman Promotions CEO Jim Claude ?JC? Manangquil, on the other hand, said the fight was another good test for Metuda.

?Yun talaga ang purpose namin laban kay Barcelona na isang beterano,? said Manangquil, who also celebrated his 23rd birthday.

Sanman?s Chief Finance Officer Dexter ?Wang Yu? Tan said that they plan to hold a championship fight already in the 39th founding anniversary of SAFI next year.

Before the main event, Tan thanked everyone including their parents Marfin and Rosalina, his very supportive wife Tata and their whole family, and all their company staff and supporters for the success of the annual celebration.

In the main supporting bout, Reymart ?Gensan Assassin? Gaballo also of Sanman knocked out Romulo ?Demon? Ramayan in 2:39 of the first round.

The 19-year old Gaballo landed a left upper cut to score his 12th straight win and 10th knockout and remained undefeated with no loss or draw while Ramayan of Valencia City dropped to 6-6-3

In the undercard, Michael Angelo ?Magic? Plania landed more telling blows to win by a unanimous decision against veteran Ronnie Rex Dalut in their 8-rounder bout.

Plania fought Dalut toe-to-toe in the 4th. Plania then connected a bodyshot to down Dalut in the 5th round but was only considered a slip by the referee.

In the next two rounds, Dalut tried several antics like running around and kneeling down every time Plania would already attack closely on him.

In the final 8th round, Dalut continued to run around Plania, who still managed to hit his left-right combination.

It was Plania?s second encounter with a veteran fighter. His first was against former Philippine champion Philip Parcon, who also tried similar antics during their 8-rounder held at the Robinson?s Mall last June 7.

?Nanggigil kasi si Plania. Gusto niya kaagad na ma-knockout si Dalut,? said John Ray ?JR? Manangquil, one of the co-promoters-managers of Sanman Promotions

The 18-year old Plania kept his unblemished record to 9 wins with 4 knockouts, no loss or draw while Dalut, 26 dropped to 9-18-2.

In the opening bout, Bimbo Nacionales pummeled to submission Michael Borja by a technical knockout in 1:29 of the third round.

Nacionales of Maasim, Sarangani Province is now 13-10-1 while Borja of Gensan dropped to 6-15-1. ? LITO DELOS REYES
