SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, ANTIQUE - Some 1,000 athletes and officials joined the Philippine National Games Visayas Qualifying Leg which opened last Tuesday at the Evelio B. Javier Memorial Sports Complex in this capital town of the Province of Antique.

This writer led the 60 athletes and officials of Maasin City which sent entries in archery, boxing, swimming, badminton, billiards, taekwando, chess, muay thai, pencak selat and athletics.

This was the first time that the Philippine National Games was regionalized to screen the participants of the National Finals to be held possibly at Tuguegarao, Cagayan in February next year. The PNG Luzon leg was held in Metro Manila last July 2-6, 2015 while the Mindanao leg was held in Pagadian City last September 10-14, 2015.
