WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman says the fight between Puerto Rico?s Miguel Angel Cotto and Mexico?s Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will be ?a right down the line barn burner!?
When the two fighters step into the ring on November 21st at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, the popular ?Canelo? Alvarez will try to snatch the WBC middleweight title from Cotto who is defending his crown for the second time.
The WBC website quoted Sulaiman who said "I feel that it will be a close match. Preparation will be fundamental and the way they execute everything inside the ring will also be so important. The opposing corners will be crucial during the bout."
Cotto is being trained by Hall of Famer Freddie Roach at his Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles who is confident the Puerto Rican veteran will win.
EXATEC asked Mauricio if age difference will be a significant factor as Alvarez is 25, while Cotto is almost ten years older.
Sulaiman replied "I don't think so, as both fighters always get prepared really well, meticulously building up to their fights. I consider this as one of the biggest fights of the last few years.?
The WBC president added. ?Its clear that the storied rivalry between Puerto Rico and Mexico is an additional element. Experience and guile will clash with strength and youth." Saul has a record of 45 victories, 32 KO?s, 1 draw and 1 defeat, while Miguel Cotto has a record of 40 victories, 33 KO?s and 4 defeats.
Saul Alvarez, former WBC super welterweight champion, will have a tough, exacting test as he's fighting a champion of champions, who's won titles in 4 different weight categories.
Sulaiman suggested "it would be an amazing achievement for Saul Alvarez plus Mexico (if he wins )and the world would find an idol," adding that Cotto is ?a magnificent champion.?
