The likeable manager of former two division world champion Brian Viloria, Gary Gittelsohn, says he ?never anticipated the possibility of a loss? to undefeated pound or pound No. 1 Roman ?Chocolatito? Gonzalez last Sunday, Manila TNime, at New York?s Madison Square Garden when Gonzalez battered Viloria to win by a 9th round TKO.
Gitttelsohn informed the New Standard/boxingmirror.com that both he and Viloria were still in New York. He will return to Los Angeles tomorrow night while Viloria will return on Thursday.
Not having anticipated a loss Gittelsohn said ?it's too early to speculate about next steps? in the career of Viloria.
The WBC website reported that ?the plan of Viloria was to dethrone champion Gonzalez, but in spite of his mobility, boxing ability, versatility and experience, he simply wasn't able to achieve it.
The WBC said ?what Roman displayed was a peppery blend of elegance, speed, technique, power and other great skills, plus a legion of other attributes. To defeat such an amazing fighter, appreciably more than a great strategy or a sound plan is needed. Roman is so exceptional, that 44 boxers have tried without success, to hit on a formula to defeat him. None have!?
Viloria ruefully commented, ?Roman is the number one. He's most certainly there for a reason. He's an accurate fighter with a great defense. He's without doubt the best fighter I've ever faced.?
Viloria conceded that he'd been expecting an altogether different type of fight. ?I lost to a great champion. Congrats to Chocolatito. I tip my hat to you and it was my honor to fight you. God bless!? Viloria gallantly and sportingly wrote on his social network.
