New York - Roman Gonzales scored a TKO victory over Brian Viloria in the 9th round of their WBC flyweight title match at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

The undefeated Gonzales (43-0, 37 KOs) dominated Viloria (36-4, 22 KOs) from the opening bell and punished the Filipino-American in the span of 9 rounds with hard shots to the head and body of his foe before Referee Benjy Estevez called a halt in the action after witnessing that Viloria was not fighting back after a flurry of punches by Gonzales in the closing seconds of the round. Time of stoppage was at 2:53 of the ninth round.

Viloria was down once in the third after receiving a hard right from the champion. He got up and fought bravely against the newly crowned pound for pound king but Gonzales was relentless on his attacks all throughout the fight.

Compubox has Gonzales leading in all categories, he landed at will with 315/ 571 of his power punches against only 161/ 460 by Viloria, resulting in a reddened and bruised face on Viloria.
