The four ALA Gym fighters who will see action in ?Pinoy Pride 33? at the StubHub Center in Carsoin, California tomorrow morning Manila Time exuded confidence after the official weigh-in yesterday with head trainer Edito ?Ala? Villamor predicting an exciting evening of boxing.
The fights will be telecast on a slightly delayed basis over ABS-CBN Sports & Action at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday with a telecast on Channel 2 on ?Sunday?s Best? in the evening. The fights will be telecast on Sky Cable free to viewers and will also be beamed to Nicaragua and on the widely watched TFC, the Filipino Channel.
Villamor told the New Standard/boxingmirror.com after the weigh in where Jimmy Lennon was the announcer that the fighters were eating a good meal with smiles on their faces after making weight easily.
Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes who makes the eighth defense of his WBO light flyweight title, tipped the scales at 107.8 pounds while his opponent, Mexican champion Juan ?Pinky? Alejo came in at 107.4 lbs.
Albert Pagara (R) and William Gonzalez.
Mark Magsayo (R) and Yardley Suarez
Jason Pagara (R) and Santos Benavides
No. 2 ranked light welterweight Jason Pagara and his opponent Santos Benavidez came in at an identical weight of 143 pounds while IBF Intercontinental super bantamweight champion Prince Albert Pagara weighed 121.8 pounds and his touted Nicaraguan opponent William ?Chirizo? Gonzalez 120.6 while IBF Youth featherweight champion Mark ?Magnifico? Magsayo checked in at the same weight as his opponent Yardley Suarez at 125.4 pounds.
Villamor told us the ALA boxers wvant to ?win impressively so the fans will see that our fighters are world class? considering tyhis is ALA Promoptions initial venture into the highly competitive US market along with the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN AND The Filipino Channel, TFC.
In a response to the concerns of Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire?s father/trainer ?Dodong? Donaire about Jason Pagara, Villamor conceded ?we are worried about all our opponents because they are all good and strong and we must be careful. But we are well prepared."
Nonito Donaire who will partner Dyan Castillejo on the telecast wished the ALA boxers all the best and himself said he believes it will be an exciting evening of boxing at the venue where he himself had two smashing wins against Jeffrey Mathebula to capture the IBF title and WBA super champion Toshiaki Nishioka to win the vacant WBC super bantamweight Diamond Belt in 2012 and was named 2012 ?Fighter of the Year.?
In a brief conversation with us, Nietes, the longest reigning Filipino world champion said he is ?excited and feeling good given the chance to fight in America for the Filipino fans? and promised that if he got the chance he would knock out Alejo as he prepared to face the tough Mexican champion who commended Nietes for being a ?complete boxer and one of the best? but indicated he is ready to put up a good fight even if it goes twelve rounds.
