Pacquiao The Game Changer

Filipino boxing icon and Sarangani Congressman Manny Pacquiao, for the nth time will do the country pride when he is accorded with the "2015 Game Changer" award by the Sia Society on Wednesday at the United Nations heaquarters in New York.

Pacquiao flies to New York tonight to join eight other honorees, including three from Japan, two from China, two from India nd one from the United Arab Emirates, who all touch an make notable impact in the lives of people from around the world.

The 2015 honorees include Japanese Isamu Akasaki, Hiroshi Amano, and Shuji Nakamura, Chanda Kochhar of India, Chinese Lei Jun and Li Cunxin, Aasif Mandvi of the United States/India), Mariam al-Mansouri of the UAE and Kiran Bir Sethi of India.

As the top honoree, Pacquiao will address the UN affair with all the honorees who were selected from over 1,000 global thought leaders.

"The Asia Game Changer Awards address the lack of recognition for Asians who are transforming ideas into action and improving lives," said Asia Society President Josette Sheeran.

"This year's honorees could not be more different from one another. They include a group of scientists, a comedian, a dancer, a fighter pilot and a boxer. What they share in common is that they all fight for a better today and inspire the world to do things differently," Sheeran said.

Sheeran stressed that all honorees have received widespread support but Pacquiao came on top of the list for his remarkable success.

"Manny Pacquiao achieved his remarkable success after a childhood of extreme hunger and poverty. Today, Manny is a major humanitarian force, directing his philanthropy toward numerous causes, including education and the fight against human trafficking. He is a remarkable inspiration and demonstrates the power of giving back to transform people's lives," Sheeran added.

Since rising into fame, the 36-year-old eight-division champion numerous awards from the different award-giving bodies, including the Time Magazine who figured he Filipino fighter in it cover several years ago, thus, joining Philippine Presidents, Manuel Quezon, Ramon Magsaysay, Ferdinand Marcos,and Corazon Aquino, among others.

He was named "Fighter of the Decade" from years 2000 to 2009 by the Boxing Writers Association of America, World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization. He is also a three-time The Ring and BWAA "Fighter of the Year," winning the award in 2006, 2008 and 2009, and the Best Fighter ESPY Award in 2009 and 2011.

Pacquiao was long rated as the best pound for pound boxer in the world by some sporting news and boxing websites, including ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Sporting Life, Yahoo! Sports, About.com, BoxRec and The Ring.
