China?s World Boxing Council super bantamweight Silver champion, Qiu Xiao ?The Dragon? Jun has successfully defended his title with an impressive 5th round TKO over Filipino Diarh "Die Hard? Gabutan at the Hangzhao City Arena before a crowd of 5,000 fans in a fight broadcast ?live? by CCTV.
The WBC reported that Jun geared up for a world title challenge with his convincing victory over Gabutan.
Jun started strong and took a comfortable lead after four rounds under the innovative WBC system where the scores are announced with Filipino judge Jerrold Tomeldon and Monglia?s Zanashir Taznaa having Jun ahead 39-37 while American judge Hubert Minn had the champion ahead by a 40-37 shutout.
The WBC website reported that Jun unleashed a powerful flurry that backed Gabutan into the ropes in round five before hard punch to the head dropped Gabutan who was unable to beat the count with referee Yuji Fukuchi ending the contest at 2:11 of the 5th round.
The 25 year old Jun improved his record to 18-2 with 8 knockouts while the 27 year old Gabutan dropped to 19-5-3 with 10 knockouts.
Jun won the vacant title with a 6th round TKO over Silvester Lopez last February 22 while it was Gabutan?s fourth loss in his last five fights with his only win being a 4th round TKO in a scheduled eight round bout against Mike Espanosa last October 4, 2014.
