Jhon Gemino of Lipa City, Batangas in the Philippines fought a spirited but losing battle against two-time world title challenger, Daniel Rosas Saturday night in the latter?s hometown of Mexico City.

Gemino who entered the ring of the Grand Theatre Moliere in Mexico City with a record of 12-4-1 (5 KOs) was looking to pull the upset over Rosas who has a record of 18-2-1, (11 KOs) in front of his hometown fans.

The 23-year old Filipino slugged it out against Rojas, 25, in the early phase of their scheduled 10 rounder. He snapped the Mexican?s head with a strong combination in the 2nd round which produced a cut on Rosas? left eye.

Gemino continued his assault on Rosas? cut in the 3rd after a strong start by the Mexican in the round. He stopped Rojas? aggression with a strong left that produced more bleeding on his counterpart?s laceration which his team tended to at the end of the round.

Rosas bounced back in the 4th with two big overhand rights that stunned his opponent. He then attacked the body of Gemino which eventually slowed down the activity of the fighter from Batangas.

The Mexican had a big 5th round to the delight of his corner and fans. He unleashed a big uppercut that hurt Gemino in the round. He then proceeded to attack the tiring Filipino who found refuge in the ropes to rest but not refuge from Rosas? string of punches.

Both fighters exchanged fists in Rounds 6 and 7. Gemino scored with a hard right counter in the 6th while Rosas landed with his short hooks to the head in the 7th.

In the 8th, Rosas pursued Gemino across the ring and landed a uppercut and hook pair that pushed the Filipino backwards. The Mexican then pursued the Filipino with a flurry of punches which dropped Gemino to the canvas.

Referee Gelasius Perez then proceeded to administer his count on an exhausted Gemino who collapsed in the canvas after the knockdown. Gemino was unable to muster any strength to stand up and was counted out by Perez.

A jubilant Rosas and his team celebrated their victory against a drained Gemino who showed signs of extreme exhaustion after the knockout.

Rosas improved to 19 wins and 12 knockouts against 2 defeats and a draw after the exciting contest between the two while Gemino will make his long trip back to the Philippines with another loss, his 5th overall and his second consecutive defeat in Mexico. He suffered a 10 round UD defeat to undefeated Andres Gutierrez in July in Acapulco.
