The manager of former two division world champion Brian Viloria has welcomed the offer of respected Filipino boxing patron Tony Aldeguer for WBO light flyweight champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes to spar with Viloria who is training at the Wild Card Gym for a massive fight against undefeated pound for pound No.2 Roman Gonzalez of Nicaragua, the reigning WBC flyweight champion at Madison Square Garden on October 17.
That is the same day on which Nietes will make his US debut in ALA Promotions first major venture at the StubHub Center in Carson City, California.
Aldeguer said that Nietes will also be training in the US and both he and Viloria will benefit if they spar against each other.
In a positive response Viloria?s manager, the likeable Gary Gittelsohn told the New Standard/boxingscene.com ?I read your article about Donnie Nietes? plans to train in Los Angeles and Tony?s offer to have Donnie move around with Brian. I like the idea. I would be grateful if you could pass along the contact information for whomever is handling Donnie?s training. Ruben Gomez (longtime trainer and friend of Viloria) would like to see if a sparring schedule can be worked out.?
At the same time Gittelsohn said the press conference at the Conga Room for the October 17 show at Madison Square Garden was ?a great success. The buzz surrounding Brian?s fight is tremendous.?
Viloria earlier told the New Standard/boxingmirror.com that he will begin sparring in the first week of September as he continues training at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.
He said celebrated trainer Freddie Roach, his Filipino assistant Marvin Somodio and longtime trainer and friend Ruben Gomez are all working together in his preparation pointing out ?the whole gang is helping out.?
Viloria said his baby son ?is one of my biggest inspirations? as he chases the biggest fight of his career against Gonzalez who he said he?s been chasing for the past two years.
Viloria who has a record of 36-4 with 22 knockouts and "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (43-0, 37 Ko?s) met for the first time at the Conga Room, to promote their fight which will be on the undercard of the Gennady Golovkin-David Lemieux middleweight battle.
