BOXING promoter Sammy Gello-ani and former world light flyweight champion John Riel Casimero are now both facing a civil suit of P1.2 million in damages for breach of contract filed by a Cebu-based boxing manager.
According to a news report by Cebu Daily News, Omega Boxing Stable?s Pio Castillo Jr. who managed Casimero for several years, had asked the Regional Trial Court in Cebu to order the boxer to comply with his obligations under the contract and avoid joining any contests or other exhibitions without written permission.
Casimero, a native of Ormoc City who trained and began his boxing career in Cebu City, was accused of violating his Boxer-Manager Contract when he decided to train and fight under the supervision of another promoter Gello-ani.
Castillo?s lawyer Manuel Espina, in a complaint filed in court, said the boxer earlier agreed to ?render services solely and exclusively for plaintiff and agreed that all his boxing contests shall be solely and exclusively designated by plaintiff.?
Casimero was accused of breaking his contract when he entered into a fight deal and fought in Thailand against International Boxing Federation (IBF) world flyweight champion Amnat Roenrueng last June 27 in Bangkok.
Castillo said the boxer should turn over his share in the June 27 boxing match in Thailand wherein he lost by a unanimous decision against Ruenroeng at the Hua Mark Indoor Stadium.
Castillo said Casimero was sent by Gello-ani to Las Vegas, USA to train for the championship fight without his knowledge.
He said it was clear from his acts that ?Gello-ani, acting with malice and bad faith, induced defendant Casimero to violate his contract.?
In October 2014, Gello-ani asked permission from Castillo to promote and arrange Casimero?s fight with Mexican Armando Santos on Dec. 13 in Sal?n Las Palmas, Pesqueria, Nuevo Le?n, Mexico.
Castillo had agreed but after Casimero had won by a 2nd round technical knockout, the Filipino boxer failed to report back to the Omega Boxing Gym in Cebu City.
Castillo only later learned that Casimero had been training at Las Vegas, under the supervision of Gello-ani for the world title-fight. He tried to stop it but the fight was still pushed through.
Gello-ani is again involved in a similar controversy.
This time with 17-year old Jonel ?Kid Pacquiao? Dapidran, who is still under contract with his cousin Manny Pacquiao?s MP Boxing Stable and Promotion in Davao City.
Gello-ani was able to make Dapidran signed a long-term promotional contract to international promoter Sampson Lewkowicz without the knowledge and approval of the boxer?s registered manager Raides ?Nonoy? Neri, chief trainer and manager of MP Boxing Stable in Davao.
In an early interview, Gello-ani, a local partner of Lewkowicz, said that Dapidran approached them for help so he can get fights overseas.
?Dapidran told us he has no contract with Neri and that he's got his Kuya Manny's (Pacquiao) consent to talk to other promoters,? Gello-ani said.
However, Neri denied Dapidran?s statement that Pacquiao had already gave him the blessings.
MP Boxing Stable promotes its own 30 boxers and other fighters in Mindanao through its MP Boxing Promotions in Davao, General Santos City, Panabo and Manila.
MP?s previous card, which was again free to the public, was held Aug. 14 at the SM Davao Annex featuring the WBO Oriental lightweight title-fight between MP?s Jay-Ar ?Hitman? Inson against Indonesian Victor Mausol.
Inson scored a 2nd round technical knockout to capture the vacant World Boxing Oriental (WBO) Oriental lightweight interim crown in the main event of the Tibay ng Pinoy IX: Duel in Davao.
MP Promotion also allows its boxers to fight in abroad through the Top Rank Promotion. ? LITO DELOS REYES
