YOUNG lightweight boxer Jonel ?Kid Pacquiao? Dapidran still has a live contract with his second cousin Manny Pacquiao?s MP Boxing Promotion until 2017.
?He can?t fight without our permission since he is still under contract with us in the MP Promotions and Stable for four years,? said MP Davao Boxing Gym chief trainer Raides ?Nonoy? Neri, who is the registered manager of Dapidran.
Neri, whose wife Vanessa handles the operations of MP Promotions and gym in Davao City, was surprised to read the announcement of promoter Sampson Lewkowicz that he had already signed a long-term promotional contract with Dapidran which came out in the website of Philboxing.
?We were really surprised on the news,? said Neri, who already talked with Pacquiao in General Santos City to verify if he had given Dapidran the release papers.
?Manny didn?t agreed to release him because we already had put a big investment on Dapidran to make him a boxer. He?s making a fool on us? Neri said.
The undefeated Dapidran (6 wins, 3 knockouts) last fought and won by a unanimous decision against Hagibis Quinones (4-12-1) in their 8-rounder bout held Nov. 8 at the Almendras gym.
But later after that fight, Dapidran told Neri that he would no longer continue boxing reportedly because he had urinated blood. And so Dapidran was sent home to Digos City.
Neri, however, then heard reports that Dapidran only had transferred his training in Bansalan, Davao del Sur, just a few kilometers away from the boxer?s residence.
?If he had only asked formally for his release from us, we would have given it,? said Neri, who even asked former boxer Bobby Pacquiao to help convince his brother Manny to just release Dapidran.
But the congressman from Sarangani Province refused to give the release papers in order to give Dapidran a lesson.
?So that the other boxers will not follow him. He is the only one to have done this to us,? Neri said.
?We have not done anything wrong on him, The MP Promotion made him a boxer,? said Neri.
Neri said that Dapidran is even luckier from than the rest of the more than 30 boxers of MP Promotions since he was given more attention for being the second cousin of Pacquiao.
?But he wanted more and was not satisfied with his purse, which was even bigger than the others. Maybe because his girlfriend got pregnant,? said Neri.
Neri thinks that somebody must have convinced Dapidran to demand for a much bigger purse from the MP Promotions since he is not only a boxer but also the second cousin of Pacquiao.
Pacquiao's maternal grandfather and Dapidran's father are brothers.
Neri said that Dapidran?s talent is not exceptional unlike Pacquiao.
?We protected Dapidran by just giving him opponents who were not really good and can easily be beaten? said Neri.
Neri has already informed the Games and Amusements Board, which advised them to also sent Lewkowicz a copy thru email the managerial and promotional contract signed by Dapidran,
?I think Lewkowicz doesn?t really know that Dapidran still has a contract with us. This wrong doings in boxing by unscrupulous persons must be put to stop already,? Neri said.
?Somebody must have told the wrong information about Dapidran to Lewkowicz,? said Neri.
Lewkowicz reportedly plans to bring Dapidran to Las Vegas after his visa will be okay.
Last November 2014, Dapidran signed his contract with the MP Promotions at the MP Davao gym.
The dos and don?ts stipulated in the contract were clearly explained to them by promoter-matchmaker Joven Jimenez, who first read it in English before translating them in vernacular or Bisaya.
?It was clearly explained to him on what was written on the contract. We also had a video of the contract signing,? said Neri.
The four-year contract, which was notarized by lawyer Rogelio Fabro took effect last Nov. 11, 2014.
GAB chairman Juan Ramon Guanzon also sent Neri a letter that his office had received a notarized copy of the contract.
The 5-foot-9 Dapidran, then only 15 year old, made his pro debut by winning a unanimous decision against Junie Vilacrusis (0-1-0) last October 26, 2013 at the Makati Coliseum.
Dapidran then scored a similar unanimous decision over Avelino Ramos (2-2-0) at the Lagao gym in General Santos City last Dec. 14, 2013.
Last year, Dapidran scored his first knockout win by stopping Jhofel CamoCamo (4-5-0) in the first round on Feb. 8 at the Almendras gym. He later knocked out Japanese Yoshinobu Arai (4-4-1) in the 5th round of a 6-rounder at the USEP gym in Davao last May 3.
Dapidran then also pummeled to submission Rey dela Cruz (2-6-0) with a body punch in 2:05 of the first round of another 6-rounder on Aug. 23 at the Almendras gym.
Last June, Dapidran had asked for his release already to the GAB office and complained that he did not really understand what was stipulated in the contract.
Dapidran said that his parents did not knew about the contract. However, Neri has a written evidence that shows Dapidran?s father had really signed a waiver that gave them the right to handle his son in boxing and any other matters in boxing. ? LITO DELOS REYES
