World Boxing Organization light flyweight champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes has been added to the inaugural venture of ALA Promotions at the StubHub Center in Carson City, California as the headliner in a blockbuster card that will also feature the promising Pagara brothers, Prince Albert and elder brother Jason and the exciting Mark ?Magnifico? Magsayo on October 17.
ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told the New Standard/boxingmirror.com that the decision to feature Nietes, the longest reigning Filipino world champion was made on Thursday and that he would inform Nietes of the decision on Friday.
Aldeguer said ?I am sure Donnie will be happy because his dream has been to fight in the United States? which also means that the planned title defense in Bacolod City would have to be shelved for the time being.
The StubHub fight card will be on the same day as former two division world champion Brian Viloria?s big fight against undefeated, pound for pound No.2 Roman Gonzalez of Nicaragua, the reigning WBC flyweight champion on the undercard of the middleweight battle between Gennady Golovkin and David Lemieux at the famed Madison Square Garden in New York.
Aldeguer said he wasn?t bothered because the two venues were far apart with the StubHub Center on the West Coast in Carson City, California and New York's Madison Square Garden located in the east.
Besides he noted there was a large Filipino and Fil-Am population in California eager to see the longest reigning Filipino world champion Nietes as well as junior welterweight Jason Pagara who is ranked No, 2 by the WBO and his younger brother, IBF Intercontinental super bantamweight champion Prince Albert who is undefeated and is ranked No. 5 by the IBF and has also broken into the WBC rankings now at No. 10.
The 33 year old Nietes has a record of 36-1-4 with 21 knockouts and is coming off an impressive twelve round decision over former minimum eight champion and mandatory flyweight challenger Francisco Rodriguez last July 11.
Prince Albert Pagara destroyed Jesus Rios in a first round knockout while elder brother Jason took eight rounds before scoring a technical decision over Ramiro Alcaraz at the World Trade Center in Dubai.
