Power-punching Nesthy Petecio, the lone survivor among the four members of the PLDT-ABAP boxing team in the ASBC Asian Women's Championships in China won her quarterfinals match Monday at the ultra-modern Wulanchabu Sports Gymnasium in this Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region city on a grim day for the Philippines.

The dusky Davao del Sur native's second victim in as many outings was an energetic Kawano Sana of Japan.

Petecio had to dodge the flurry of punches the Japanese girl unleashed and counter with her powerful right straights.

After a tough battle Petecio said "She's a crafty fighter (Sana is only 19 and fought her first international match although she is Japan's National Champion). She has an unorthodox defensive style that I had to figure out so my shots would connect. We have to watch out for her in the coming years" said the 23 year Filipina who lost a close bout in the finals of the recently-concluded SEA Games in Singapore. She settled for silver there, the same medal color she won in the Women's World Championships in Jeju, Korea last November.

Tuesday is a rest day with the semifinal round taking on Wednesday when Petecio will suit up against another firebrand-Basumatary Pwilao of women's boxing powerhouse India. Pwilao won a split decision over hometown favorite Liu Piaopiao of China.
