Unranked Filipino featherweight Vergel Nebran will fight former world super flyweight champion Cristian Mijares in a super featherweight clash in Campeche, Mexico on June 20, Manila Time.
The 25 year old Nebran who is handled by Gabriel "Bebot" Elorde has an unimpressive record of 13-8-1 with 8 knockouts will face Mijares who is aiming to keep his winning streak going and to improve his record of 51-8-2 with 25 knockouts, having won four straight fights after losing to super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz last March 2014.
Since then Mijares has won the vacant WBC featherweight Silver title with a unanimous ten round decision over Lester Medrano of Nicaragua on November 15, 2014 after earlier scoring a 7th round TKO over Sebastian David Rodriguez.
At one time Mijares who is an excellent boxer was being touted as an opponent to then WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire at Donaire?s prime but the fight never pushed through.
Nebran is coming off a sixth round unanimous decision over journeyman Prell Tupaz who had an extremely poor record of 8 wins as against 26 losses, 4 draws and only one knockout last February 28 after losing by a 6th round TKO to undefeated Rey Vargas (19-0, 16 KO?s) on June 14, 2014 indicating that the although Nebran is being built up as a tough test and a solid puncher willing to scarp with anyone, for any fighter, Mijares is likely to dominate the fight and improve his WBO world ranking at No 14.
