Brooklyn, New York ? Miguel Cotto did not disappoint his legion of fans in the greatest city in the world with an impressive fourth round stoppage of challenger, Daniel Geale of Australia.

The reigning World Boxing Council Middleweight champion of the world scored two hard knockdowns in the 4th round against the unlucky Geale who was saved from further damage by Referee Harvey Dock after being sent to the canvas again with more than a minute left in the round.

A hard left hook which was Cotto?s patent punch sent the Aussie to the canvas with less than a minute spent in the 4th. Geale was thrown across the ring and outside the ropes after suffering the first hit but recovered and fought gamely against the rampaging champion.

Geale?s bravery was not enough as a short right hook after a series of blinding combinations from Cotto dropped the Aussie fighter again halfway in the 4th and he had a hard time getting up from that.

Referee Dock halted the fight in favor of a jubilant Cotto who scored his 40th win and KO Number 33 in front of an equally jubilant New York crowd that adores him.

?Being here after ten weeks of training in L.A. is a great thrill,? Cotto remarked after his victory.

His victory is a major source of joy for his hometown fans that will be celebrating their annual National Puerto Rican Day Parade in the streets of Manhattan next Sunday. The Barclays Center was filled with 12,157 of his fans who chanted his name from the time he entered the arena up to the moment that he was declared the winner.

?I knew after the first round that I need to be aggressive,? said Cotto who dominated Geale with shots to the body and the head, most from his hard left hook that made his opponent winced in pain after being hit by Cotto in the torso.

Cotto was on point in the fight; landing 37 percent of his total punches (68 of 183) and 39 percent of his power punches (43 of 110). His left hooks destroyed his hapless foe who was a recipient of another TKO loss in New York, the first was a TKO loss in the 3rd to Gennady Golovkin in July of last year.

Asked about a possible middleweight unification fight with Golovkin who was at ringside to watch him, Cotto stated ?We?ll see.?

?Why not, after my next fight,? he remarked.

That ?next fight? will possibly be a super fight and a profitable one at that with Mexican superstar, Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez in the fall.

?Canelo will just be another fight. If the people want the fight to happen, it will,? stated Cotto.

The fans of both fighters and the boxing world are keeping their fingers crossed for both fights to come to come to fruition.
