World Boxing Council and Ring Magazine middleweight Champion Miguel Cotto, the pride of Puerto Rico, and challenger Daniel Geale of Australia are both within the weight stipulations seven days before their June 7th (Manila Time) title, fight in Brooklyn. New York.
The weigh-in which was instituted by the WBC to monitor boxer?s weights for safety and health reasons showed Cotto weighing 163.6 pounds and Geale heavier at 167 ? pounds which were both within the seven-day limit.
The fight will be Cotto?s first defense of the title he won from Argentina?s Sergio ?Maravilla? Martinez which was his fourth world title in what the WBC said was ?an illustrious career.?
Earlier in the week Cotto was invited by the New York Mets to watch their game against The Florida Marlins at the City Field in Queens, New York.
The WBC reported that Cotto was joined by his family and his team led by legendary trainer Freddie Roach and shared with fans and players, who came to welcome him.
Cotto said "It was such a pleasure to visit the Mets. I had a great time with Freddie and all my team. I want to thank the Mets organization for this great invitation. We are having a wonderful time in the City. We'll continue our training schedule as planned and have fun all of this week until Saturday, June 6".
Roach commented it was ?a great day visiting the New York Mets stadium with Miguel today. Sun was a bit too hot for me but I had a lot of fun".
