Cabalquinto retains PH title by 1st round KO; Fights all ended by knockouts in Tibay ng Pinoy 8

PHILIPPINE junior welterweight champion Adones ?Ironman? Cabalquinto retained his title via a first round knockout as all of the 12 bouts in the ?Tibay ng Pinoy 8? ended up via the short route Saturday at the Lagao gym in General Santos City.
After sizing up his rival, Cabalquinto landed a left jab followed by a right cross on the chin of challenger Jonel Gadapan for the knockout in 1 minute and 48 seconds of the first round.
Cabalquino, also reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Council jr. welterweight king, improved his record to 19th straights wins with no loss or draw while Gadapan suffered his 8th defeat against nine wins and two draws.
International Boxing Federation (IBF) Pan Pacific super flyweight champion Jerwin ?Pretty Boy? Ancajas sent his former tormentor Juan ?Punisher? Purisima of General Santos City lying down on the canvas by a stinging left on the jaw in the last 46 seconds of the 9th round.
The early rounds showed both fighters trading punches at close range.
?Nanggigil kasi ako sa early rounds,? said Ancajas, who now has 23 wins against one loss only.
Eight other fighters also from the MP Davao Stable under chief trainer Nonoy Neri also all won by knockouts.
International Boxing Federation (IBF) World Youth super flyweight champion Aston ?Mighty? Palicte landed a solid punch on the midsection to knockout Michael Escobia in 1:57 of the 3rd round.
Palicte surprisingly started slow in the opening round and wobbled after he absorbed a right straight jab. But Palicte came back strong in the next two rounds and started landing his solid left-right combinations.
The other results: Genesis Libranza stopped Rodel Tejares in 1:55 of the 2nd round by a technical knockout; Orly Silvestre TKO?d Michael Borja in 49 seconds of the 1stround; Marvilo Aballe TKO?d Dingdong Quinones in 89 seconds of the second round; Rene Mark Cuarto TKO?d Sadam Barambagan in 1:13 of the third round; Aries Buenavidez TKO?d Mark Guenia in 1:15 of the 5th round; Ronnie Baldonado knockout John Leo Galleposo in 1:26 in the first round; Jose Ravelo Aballe TKO?d Jun Sabilina in 21 seconds of the 6th round.
Former interim IBF Pan Pacific super bantamweight champion Drian Francisco, however, suffered a shocking first round knockout defeat from the hands of Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) super flyweight king Jason Canoy.
Canoy landed a solid right on the face to first knockdown Francisco in the early round. The 32-year old Francisco tried to recover but was clearly wobbling while telling referee Ramil Ovalo that he can still fight.
Canoy again landed a solid blow on Francisco?s face to finally end the fight and improved his record to 24 wins with 18 KOs against five loses and two draws. Francisco, who was immediately rushed to a hospital only suffered third loss against 27 wins with 21 Kos and one draw.
?I?m so very happy I beat him,? said Canoy, who is under Omega Stable in Cebu.
Francisco, however, vowed to bounce back from the upset.
Meanwhile, upcoming Romero Duno of the Sanman Promotions also TKO?d Arnel Asebuque in 51 seconds of the fifth round for his fifth straight win and 4th knockout.
