Parrenas.
The trainers preparing WBO Oriental super flyweight champion Warlito ?Cowboy? Parrenas for his Interim title fight against Mexico?s David Carmona in Mexico on June 20 are concentrating on developing his power and stamina according to British trainer Warren Evison.
In a lengthy and detailed report to the New Standard/boxingmirror.com, Evison said fight fans "better be ready for a different Parrenas? on fight night.
He said the training of Parrenas is being ?monitored closely in Tokyo? where the Filipino who is ranked No.1 by the WBO is training for his clash with the No. 2 ranked Carmona.
Evison informed us that Parrenas is sparring with 28 year old Hiroki Saito from the Watanabe Gym who is currently ranked No. 2 in Japan and former Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation super flyweight champion. 30 year old Takuya Kogawa who won the title with a 6th round technical decision over Danilo ?Pit Bull? Pena on October 28, 2010 and currently sports a record of 23-4 with 13 knockouts.
Kogawa won his last fight, an eight round unanimous decision over Hiroyuki Histaka last October 10.
Super flyweight Saito has a record of 9-4 with 5 knockouts.
The United International Promotions team based in Tokyo will leave for Mexico on June 15.
Evison said Parrenas runs on the local track and field oval three times a week. His regimen includes running 800 meters five times, 400 meters four times, 200 meters three times and the 100 meters four times ?to build up stamina.?
The British trainer who works closely with Filipino counterpart, former boxer Sammy Bernabe said Parrenas is also ?going through vigorous training with altitude masks and does some hard work on the punch mitts.?
He said they are ?concentrating on applying pressure on his opponent.?
Evison believes ?It will be the test of Parrenas career? pointing out that he ?is at the pinnacle of his training and needs this win more than anything. To say he is motivated is an understatement.?
He said Team Parrenas realizes that Carmona ?has speed and technique which is why we are sparring Parrenas against Japanese as they are aggressive fighters and fast. Perfect for his training against Carmona.?
Evison didn?t underestimate Carmona saying ?the Mexican is a good fighter. He isn?t the WBO No. 2 for nothing . We know what we are up against in addition to fighting in hostile turf. But Warlito is the current no.1 and its time for him to prove it.?
