TIBAY NG PINOY 8: Cabalquinto to defend PH title May 30

DAVAO CITY, Philippines -- Undisputed Philippine junior welterweight champion Adones Cabalquinto of Talaingod, Davao del Norte will defend his title against Jonel Gadapan of Iligan City in the main event of the "Tibay ng Pinoy 8" on May 30 in General Santos City.

Cabalquinto, also reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Council super lightweight title-holder, will be making his fourth title-defense of the PH title.

The 5-foot-8 slugger from the MP Boxing Stable won the vacant Philippine crown via a unanimous decision win over Dan Nazareno Jr. on March 17, 2012 at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
Cabalquinto then successfully defended it against Romeo Jakosalem on December 12, 2012 also by a unanimous decision in Iba, Zambales.

Cabalquinto again retained it against RJ Ano-os by a unanimous decision at the Makati Coliseum in Makati City on Oct. 26, 2013.
In his last title-defense, Cabalquinto knocked out Jovary Rota in the 6th round at the Almendras Gym in Davao City last June 28, 2014.

"Admission is free to the public," said promoter Joven Jimenez, who is staging the card also dubbed as "Handog Pasasalamat ni Cong. Manny Pacquiao" with the the MP Promotions USA LLC.
Four other exciting fighters from the MP Boxing Stable will also be featured.

International Boxing Federation (IBF) Pan Pacific super flyweight champion Jerwin "Pretty Boy" Ancajas (22 wins, 14 KOs, 1 loss, 1 draw) of Panabo City will fight against Juan "Punisher" Purisima (11 win, 4 KOs, 7 loses, 1 draw) of General Santos City.

IBF World Youth super flyweight champion Aston "Mighty" Palicte (17 wins, 15 KOs, 1 loss) of Bago City takes on Luzon Professional Boxing Association (Luzproba) super flyweight king Michael Escobia (10 wins, 2 KOs, 9 loses, 1 draw) of Bohol.
Former interim IBF Pan Pacific super bantamweight champion Drian "Gintong Kamao" Francisco (27 wins, 21 KOs, 2 loses, 1 draw) of Mindoro Occidental will trade punches with Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) super flyweight king Jason Canoy (23 wins, 17 KOs, 5 loses, 2 draws) of Balamban, Cebu.

All four fights are scheduled for 10 rounders.

The curtain raiser is an 8-rounder between MP Stable's undefeated Genesis Libranza (6 wins, 4 KOs) of Agusan del Sur against journeyman Rodel "Hardworker" Tejares (20 wins, 5 KOs, 33 loses, 6 draws) of Bukidnon.
