Most Filipino boxing fans say that the only way for a Filipino fighter to win in Mexico is to score a knockout.

Eden Sonsona did just that and in spectacular fashion Saturday night.

Sonsona, 26, (33-6-2, 11 KOs) of General Santos City scored a 2nd round TKO win over previously unbeaten super featherweight Adrian Estrella, 23, (22-0, 20 KOs) of Monterrey, Nuevo Le?n, Mexico at the Auditorio Miguel Barragan, San Luis Potosi, San Luis Potos?, Mexico.

The Pinoy fighter came out swinging from the get-go against a knockout artist who is fighting in his home turf. Both mixed it up in the opening salvo, with the bigger Estrella going down early from what is ruled as a slip by the referee.

Estrella was able to dodge Sonsona?s overhand lefts in the first and managed to hurt his opponent with combinations of his own. He stunned Sonsona early in the round with a short right that almost knocked down the fighter from the Philippines.

In the 2nd round, Estrella started fast but missed with a straight right that Sonsona was able to avoid. Sonsona fired a looping left that glanced Estrella and then followed it up with a big and perfectly timed overhand right that clipped the Mexican in the jaw.

Estrella fell and hit the canvas with his hand and face after receiving the huge shot. He got up but was visibly dizzy as he stood up and wobbled around the ring. He fell again as he reached his own corner and the referee stopped the fight immediately in favor of a jubilant Sonsona who hugged his trainer after his big win.

Sonsona snatched the vacant WBC International Silver Super Featherweight strap with his big upset win and notched his 34th win and 12th KO of his career in enemy territory.

Estrella will have to regroup with his shocked team after suffering his first defeat and knockout in the hands of the visiting Sonsona - who joined fellow Pinoy fighter Jonathan Taconing as the only two fighters from the Philippines who are victorious in Mexico this year.
