LAS VEGAS ? ?Ready, I?m ready,? Manny Pacquiao declared when he stepped inside the ring of the Top Rank Gym Thursday afternoon.
Two days before the biggest fight of his career, Pacquiao donned his training gloves for the last time before he steps in the ring of the MGM Grand Garden Arena to face rival, Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Pacquiao practiced with chief trainer Freddie Roach for about half hour at the gym, honing final preparations for Saturday evening?s (Sunday morning in the Philippines) much anticipated mega-fight.
Assistant Trainer, Buboy Fernandez was in the corner time-keeping and shouting added instructions as Pacquiao and Roach did the mitts and reinforced their strategies for the night of the fight.
Pacquiao then finished the afternoon with abdominal and stretching exercises with the assistance of Conditioning Coach Justin Fortune and Assistant Trainer, Roger Fernandez.
Pacquiao also ran and jogged Thursday morning in a private school oval that was reserved for him.
The WBO welterweight champ is weighing under the 147 pound limit for his welterweight unification bout with Mayweather Jr.
Buboy Fernandez said that Pacquiao is currently weighing around 144 pounds and that he does not need to starve himself to make weight for tomorrow?s official weigh-in which will be held at the same venue of the fight.
Even if Pacquiao eats tonight or tomorrow morning, Pacquiao will still make the target weight, added Fernandez.
Fernandez sensed the apprehension on the mostly Filipino guests who were allowed in the gym to watch Pacquiao and uttered, ?Huwag kasi kayong masyadong nag-kakape, ayan nine-nerbiyos kayo.?
(You all should not be drinking too much coffee and that is why you are all edgy.)
Upon hearing this, Pacquiao addressed the crowd and stated ?Relax, Relax.?
Calm is Pacquiao?s demeanor Thursday, even jokingly throwing rapid punches on trainer Roger Fernandez in a corner who tried to mimic Mayweather?s stance.
?Blessed be the name of the Lord,? Pacquiao stated at the end of his final training session and he then sat in the ring, vowed his head and uttered a prayer as the crowd joins him in silence.
They then showered him with a round of applause when he stood up to leave.
The Fight of the Century is less than forty-eight hours away.
