LAS VEGAS ? It?s not enough that Manny Pacquiao?s boxing shorts for his fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. is worth 2.5 million dollars of sponsorship money. His only garb for Fight Night will be a canvas of advertisement from the biggest companies from the Philippines.
Pacquiao?s TV commercials are all over the Philippine airwaves with his image flashed in every programming break from the nation?s major TV networks.
The Filipino sports icon is also a favorite image model by major companies in the United States. His funny Foot Locker twin commercials are a favorite amongst viewers.
Nike, Nestle?s popular Butterfinger chocolate bars and Roll Global?s Wonderful Pistachios also lists Pacquiao as its endorsers.
And if that?s not enough, Pacquiao is about to reveal another major sponsor that will add to boxer?s treasury chest in addition to the biggest purse of his career.
?There is a surprise sponsor that will be revealed in the next two days that will knock everybody?s socks off,? his promoter Bob Arum announced in the press conference Wednesday afternoon.
Philboxing.com tried to ask Arum for additional details regarding this latest development, but the promoter is tight-lipped about the subject.
?They?d kill me if I told you,? Arum told this writer.
?But the mystery sponsor is coming with a lot of celebrities,? he added.
Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Jr. is considered the ?Superbowl? of boxing, with Superbowl-like money pouring in for the event.
Will one of Superbowl?s familiar sponsors be one of them?
Could it be Anheuser-Busch?s Budweiser which is Superbowl?s top sponsor or PepsiCo?s Pepsi, which produces the half-time show?
Could it be Pepsi?s rival Coca Cola or a major automotive company like Toyota, Volkswagen or Fiat? The last two automotive companies spent a combined 100 million dollars in Super Bowls XLIII through XLVII.
Or could it be the largest company in the world in Apple? There could be no one bigger than the $700 billion tech king.
Or maybe it is Apple?s biggest rival ? Samsung?
Pacquiao lately carries a Samsung smart phone, a switch from the iPhone 6 Plus that he?s been using in the past. In his fan rally at the Mandalay Bay last Tuesday he posted numerous selfies using the device.
And yesterday, the official Manny Pacquiao Twitter account posted a photo of him using the device, with a new hashtag - #GalaxyLife, something that he has not used in the past.
The Samsung Galaxy S6?s slogan is ?The Next Big Thing?. Is it the ?Next Big Thing? on Pacquiao?s growing list of sponsors?
