Former two division world champion Diego Corrales whose knockout over Jose Luis Castillo in May 2005 is considered perhaps the greatest fight in the history of boxing has been killed in a motorcycle accident in Las Vegas.

Corrales? promoter Gary Shaw who was also listed as Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao?s promoter for two fights said that Corrales was riding a racing motorcycle at a very high speed and crashed into the back of a car.

Shaw told Rick Reeno of the widely read Boxing Scene that the impact of the collision sent Corrales flying from his motorcycle and upon hitting the ground he was struck by another vehicle. For the moment there were no signs of Corrales being under the influence of alcohol.

Shaw told Reeno, "Diego was a warrior. A true warrior. He gave fight fans their money?s worth. As a fighter he should be inducted into the boxing hall of fame. The fight with Castillo was a fight for the ages. He fought with a balls to the walls style and always wanted to give boxing fans a real fight."

His tragic death came exactly two years after his most memorable victory when he virtually dragged himself off the canvas to force a thrilling stoppage in an epic war with Castillo. He lost the rematch against Castillo and then lost to Joel Casamayor and Joshua Clottey in his last fight in April. He had a record of 40-5 with 33 knockouts.

Corrales held world titles at super featherweight and lightweight.
