NEW YORK ? Madison Square Garden, The Mecca of Boxing, plays the final host of what has been a very busy month for New York boxing.

With high-profile fights in the previous two weekends of April in the Empire State, The Garden is the venue tonight for the heavyweight championship showdown between long-standing champion, Wladimir Klitschko and unbeaten contender Bryant Jennings.

SIMS JR. DEFEATS RODRIGUEZ

In the opener, Kenneth Sims Jr. (6-0, 2 KOs) of Chicago, Illinois, a sparring mate of Manny Pacquiao for his upcoming bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr., was triumphant against Luis Rodriguez (3-3, 2 KOs) of Carolina, Puerto Rico in six rounds of junior welterweight action.

The young American fighter controlled the tempo and unleashed punishing head and body shots against the game but outgunned Rodriguez.

With Sims landing accurately through six rounds, judges at ringside favored him with a Unanimous Decision nod with scores of 59-55 and 60-54 (twice).

KILADZE KO?S JOHNSON

Iago Kiladzie (23-1, 16 KOs), a countryman of Klitschko, thrashed Raford Johnson (11-18, 6 KOs) of Longview, Texas in the 4th round of a one-sided match between cruiserweights.

Kiladzie, of Kiev, Ukraine, landed a hard left hook on the shorter and smaller Johnson which dazed the American fighter. Kiladzie then went for the kill, landing three more unanswered blows on his hapless foe.

This prompted Referee Johnny Callas to step in the action and stop the fight in favor of Kiladzie with a second left in the 4th.

Kiladzie, backed by the enthusiastic Ukrainian crowd in the venue scored his 23rd win and 16th stoppage.

MARTIN STOPS DALLAS IN 1

Unbeaten heavyweight Charles Martin of St. Louis, Missouri, maintained his clean record by stopping Tom Dallas of Chatham, U.K. in the first round of a scheduled 10 round contest.

Martin landed a straight left in the closing minute of the opener, which weakened the knees of the visiting fighter from the United Kingdom. It also resulted in a nasty cut which oozed heavily in the lft eye of Dallas.

Referee Pete Santiago saw how Dallas was hurt and bleeding, stopped the fight and abruptly summoned the ringside physician to check on Dallas.

Martin earned the 21st consecutive of his career (21-0-1, 19 KOs) with the TKO stoppage while Dallas dropped to 17-6 (12 KOs).

Time of stoppage was 2:56 of the 1st.
