Dennis Tubieron flew to the United Kingdom looking to stop Josh Warrington?s world title hopes. He was not able to do that Saturday night in Warrington?s hometown of Leeds, losing to the undefeated UK fighter by a lopsided Unanimous Decision in 12 rounds.
Judges at ringside logged in identical scores of 119-109 for Warrington who won the vacant WBC International featherweight strap and placed him as a top contender for the WBC world featherweight title which was won by Gary Russell Jr. recently against Jhonny Gonzalez.
An enthusiastic crowd of about 10,000 at the First Direct Arena cheered their hometown fighter, as Warrington punished a tough and game Tubieron who refused to go down and surrender in enemy territory.
Warrington utilized a mix of body and temple shots against the brave Filipino fighter who was not afraid to lead the charge in the early goings of the fight.
Tubieron slowed down in the mid rounds, eating the Brit?s punches while his back was on the ropes in Round 5, a round that kept going past the 3 minute limit.
The Leeds fighter tried to end the fight after the 5th against his tiring foe, but Tubieron absorbed his punches and was also able to sneak in a decent answer when Warrington attacked him.
The Pinoy fighter out of Puerto Princesa in the beautiful island of Palawan in the Philippines survived the remainder of the fight on his feet. He went down in the 12th and last round, but that was ruled as a slip by the referee.
Both fighters hugged as the final bell sounded in Leeds, as fans showered their fighter with cheers and applause.
Warrington who improved to 21-0 with 4 KOs gave ?massive credit? to Tubieron for his toughness after their fight. Tubieron drops to 19 (8 KOs)-4-2 after the loss in the road.
