The World Boxing Council website says light flyweight champion Pedro Guevara?s first title defense against undefeated Filipino Richard Claveras in Sinaloa will be a ?veritable test of fire.?
The website said Guevara who will soon be a lawyer will ?lay down the law this Saturday and the nature of this seminar is likely to produce marks and welts in the quest to find the true measure of the ruler? of the 108 pound division.
The WBC reported that ?the catalyst in Pedro?s encounter with undefeated Philippine slugger Richard ?Explosive? Claveras is power and points out that Guevara has built an impressive record of 29 victories, 16 by knockout with just one defeat and one draw while Claveras has a record of 12 wins, all via KO and two draws.
The WBC said that ?a disciplined boxer Guevara doesn?t take the law into his own hands? but points out that ?he?ll be proudly holding aloft the his WBC green and gold belt in one hand and a law degree in the other.?
It said the paperwork to ensure Guevara is awarded his law degree at the Autonomous University of Sinaloa ?is well underway.?
The WBC headed by its president Mauricio Sulaiman and the University recently signed a mutual, sports cooperation agreement.
Dr. Juan Eulogio Guerra Liera, rector of the University, signed a key agreement with president Sulaiman. As part of the pact, educative and sports programs will be designed using the vast WBC experience with the first courses focused on sports management, physical rehab and sports medicine.
