REIGNING World Boxing Federation (WBF) world super featherweight champion Harmonito ?Lights Out? dela Torre and promising Jay-Ar ?The Hitman? Inson knocked out their separate rivals in the ?Tibay ng Pinoy 7: Matira ang Matibay? on Easter Sunday (April 5) at the Panabo Freedom Park gym in Panabo City.
The General Santos City-based Dela Torre, 23 made short work in stopping Fil-Black American William ?The Black Slugger? George of Kidapawan City in 2:18 of the first round to improve his record to 7 wins, 1 loss and no draw.
George, who has no manager tried to fight back despite being hit by a barrel of left-right combination from Dela Torre. But George was no match against the world-class fighter from Sanman Boxing Stable as he suffered his 22nd defeat in 32 fights.
?Dela Torre (15W-0L-OD) needs this tune-up fight before he will embark to the US next month,? said Dela Torre?s manager Jim Claude Manangquil.
The 5-foot-10 Inson, on the other hand, twice knocked down Elmer Legaria of Glan, Saranggani for a 4th round knockout in his first tenner.
Inson, a former outstanding member of the Barangay Una amateur boxing team in Panabo City, used his left upper cut in scoring a knockdown early in the 3rd round.
Inson, who finished first his Marketing course at UM Panabo before he turned pro, landed another left upper to the jaw to finally knockout Legaria in 28 seconds of the 4th canto. Inson, a native of Davao City remained undefeated in eight bouts with five knockouts, no loss and no draw.
Ryan Lumacad, another former national gold medalist of Barangay Una, also impressed the huge crowd in beating journeyman Dondon Navarez of Dipolog City.
Both Inson and Lumacad (8W-0L-1D) are now under the MP Boxing Stable in Davao.
Four of five other MP Davao boxers also prevailed in the undercard presented by the MP Promotions USA LCC in cooperation with Joven Sports Promotions, City Councilor Ferdinand Gocon and Cong. Anton Lagdameo.
Minifly Rene Mark ?Minnie Mouse? Cuarto stopped Dipolog?s Nestor Laguido in 2:59 of the 2nd round by a technical knockout. Jose Ravelo Aballe pummeled to submission Sigubay?s Guido Vera in 2:51 of the 1st round.
Ronie Baldonado and rookie Jhon Rex Ginang scored unanimous decisions against Bukidnon?s Rolly Bersabal and Jason Sanchez, respectively.
MP Davao?s lone casualty was Eljun Salva, who bowed to a taller Daniel Lim of Bukidnon by UD in their 4-rounder debut.
MP Promotions? Vanessa Neri said their next boxing card will be a bigger one slated on May 30 in General Santos City.
?We plan to have Mexican fighters already against our champion boxers,? said Neri, wife of 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao?s assistant trainer Raides ?Nonoy? Neri.
Meanwhile, three young amateur boxers also from MP Boxing Davao scored contrasting wins in the curtain raiser. Palarong Pambansa bound Arjay Recopalacion scored a referee-stop-contest against Peterlu Bascon of Dujali in 1:03 of second round.
Jim Libranza stopped Panabo?s Jetarro Arellano in the first round while his younger brother Jigs beat Dujali?s Marwin Aballe by a UD. Panabo?s Jerald Cantero won by a split decision over General Santos City?s Harley Davidson Tomandan. ? LITO DELOS REYES
