Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is pleased over Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire's and has discussed plans for a July fight in Macau to keep the momentum of his 2nd round TKO victory over Brazil's William Prado before an enthusiastic crowd at the Araneta Coliseum last Saturday.
Arum told the New Standard/boxingmiror.com "I'm glad Nonito did well" and said his manager Cameron Dunkin "came over to the office to discuss the possible opponents" for the July fight card in Macau.
He said "no conclusion yet (on an opponent) but said "it won't be a title fight."
Prior to returning to Las Vegas to reunite with wife Rachel and son Jarrel, Donaire said he was eager to resume training for his planned return to the ring in July.
After taking a few days off Donaire said he would get back to training with strength and conditioning coach and longtime friend Mike Bazzel who said Donaire's physical condition was better because of his ?off season training? which is what Bazzel wants him to continue.
The strength and conditioning coach noticed that for the Prado fight Donaire ?looked pretty good and more muscular.?
He believes that after Donaire?s crushing 6th round loss to the bigger and stronger featherweight super champion Nicholas ?The Axe Man? Walters that Nonito ?is a man on a mission and that?s part of the mission to train hard.?
Bazzel believes "Donaire is re-focused and doesn?t want to go away. He wants to continue and be even better than he was in 2012? when he was named ?Fighter of the Year? after four smashing victories.
Donaire was cheered lustily by the big crowd at the Araneta Coliseum last Saturday who kept chanting his name as he demolished Prado to score a 2nd round TKO to win the WBC North American Boxing Federation title.
