Juan Francisco ?Gallo? Estrada of Mexico retained his WBO and WBA world flyweight gems against Rommel Asenjo of the Philippines via third round stoppage at the Poliforum Zamna in Merida, Yucat?n, Mexico.

Estrada, (32-2, 23 KOs) landed and scored to the body and the head of the traveling Filipino challenger in the first two rounds of their flyweight championship match. He forced Asenjo to the ropes and the posts with his punches in the second, and then used that opportunity to land more combinations as the Filipino covers up from the attack.

A combination topped by a short left downed Asenjo (26-4, 20 KOs) in the opening minute of the third but referee Jose Rivera did not rule it as a knockdown.

What followed after surprised both fighters in the ring as a white towel from Asenjo?s corner came flying across the ring.

The referee stopped the action in the ring and after validating that Asenjo?s corner did indeed asked for the fight to be stopped, ended the fight in favor of Estrada at the 43 second mark of the 3rd.

Asenjo?s right eye was noted to be swollen and closing when the fight was stopped, a result of the champion?s assaults in the first three rounds of the bout.

?Masyadong malaki ang kalaban,? (The opponent is too big.) can be heard from the television coverage as the TV cameras followed Asenjo after the stoppage.

Asenjo (5?2?) was two inches shorter than Estrada (5?4?) and gave up a 4-inch reach advantage (62?) to Estrada (66?).

This was Estrada?s fifth successful defense of the twin titles that he won from Filipino-American Brian Viloria in 2013.

Out of Estrada?s last five wins and title defenses, four came from fighters from the Philippines, earning him the nickname of the ?Filipino killer.?

His other Filipino victim was Ardin Diale in a non-title fight in 2012.

Asenjo is known as ?The Little Assassin? but it was Estrada who has been on point in liquidating the competition from the Philippines.
