The Philippines Bert Batawang is being lined up for an IBF light flyweight title eliminator against Mexico’s Francisco “Chiquita” Rosas possibly on the undercard of the May 26 lightweight clash between Joan Guzman and Michael Katsidis and the main supporting bout between Oscar Larios and Jorge Linares.

Well known promoter and boxing manager Sammy Gello-ani told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that the eliminator had already been approved by the IBF with the winner of the Batawang-Rosas bout getting a crack at champion Ulisses Solis, the younger brother of Jorge Solis who was knocked out by Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao last April 14 at the Alamadome in San Antonio, Texas.

Rosas has a ring record of 19-5-1 with 12 knockouts and in his last fight scored a first round KO over little known Eduardo Ocadiz on February 3 after winning the Mundo Hispano title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Gabriel Ramirez on July 1, 2006.

Among the losses sustained by Rosas were those against reigning WBC light flyweight champion Edgar Sosa who beat Brian Viloria and Lorenzo Trejo who lost by a fourth round TKO to Rodel Mayol in a WBC title eliminator on January 28, 2006 in Cancun, Mexico.

The 35 year old Batawang, a southpaw with vicious punching power has a record of 50-6 with 34 knockouts and is eager to end his career on a high note. He is coming off a fourth round TKO over Indonesia’s Sofyan Efendi last February 24.
