The Philippines' IBO light flyweight champion Rey Loreto will defend his title in a rematch with tough South African Nkosinathi Joyi at the Mdantsane Indoor Sports Center in East London on Sunday afternoon, South African time.
The 24 year old Loreto scored a stunning 3rd round knockout over the 31 year old Joyi in Monte Carlo in February last year. The knockout came at 2 minutes 32 seconds into the round.
Well known Super Sport boxing writer Ron Jackson reported that it is a make-or-break fight for Joyi with the veteran Eastern Cape fighter having revenge on his mind when he enters the ring before his hometown supporters.
Joyi is a former IBO strawweight and IBF mini flyweight champion and has no fought since he won a non-title fight against Henri Amol of Indonesia in the 7th round in October last year.
The former South African champion has a record of 24-3 with 17 knockouts while Loreto who is regarded as having an erratic record is 19-13 with 11 knockouts.
Jackson notes that Loreto lost to Atushi Kakutani and Benezer Alolod in his past 13 fights but Joyi ?remains the only really high-class opponent he has faced.?
