Yoshiro Kamegai promises another fan-friendly showing on TV

Yoshiro Kamegai entertained fans when he fought former three time world champion and an equally tough, Robert Guerrero in a slugfest last year at the Stub Hub Center in California and as a main event attraction on Showtime.
The Japanese welterweight gained recognition from boxing fans after figuring in one of last year?s best wars in the ring ? a brutal phone booth fight in 12 rounds with Guerrero.
Kamegai, bloodied, bruised and trailing Guerrero for most of the fight, lost in all of the scorecards of ringside judges when the final bell was struck, but won the admiration of fans after a never-say-die attitude from Tokyo-based fighter.
?I actually lost that fight but I went in to win that fight. I don?t think I went down in terms of where I was in my career but I did get a lot of exposure,? Kamegai told Philboxing.com.
Kamegai, 32, (25-2-1, 22 KOs) will bring that same frame of mind when he steps in the ring tonight in another promising fan-friendly main-event on national TV when he faces Alfonso Gomez, 34, (24-6-2, 12 KOs) of Mexico via FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes? Golden Boy Live! Boxing series.
Gomez, an alumnus of ?The Contender? series and the man who retired the great Arturo Gatti, is an intense fighter who was a title challenger to many of the sport?s champions and stars like Saul Alvarez and Miguel Cotto.
The Mexican fighter is coming off an upset win against Ed Paredes of Hollywood, Florida, last summer at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. Paredes was on a 13 fight winning streak before losing by Unanimous Decision in 10 rounds against Gomez who returned from a two-year layoff before that fight.
?I will try to bring the same attitude and the same toughness that I brought to the Guerrero fight, but he is a different fighter. He is a technician and has a lot of good combinations and has pretty good footwork as well, so basically it will depend on how our styles match up,? said Kamegai of Gomez.
Kamegai is non-committal on any predictions about his fight with Gomez but he promised to bring the energy and grit that was seen from him against Guerrero.
?I really couldn?t tell you if it is going the distance or not but I know that it is going to be a tough fight and I am going to finish it to the very last round.?
Kamegai and Gomez both made the required weight Thursday afternoon for their scheduled 10 rounder at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio California tonight.
Kamegai was 149.6 while Gomez was 149.2.
Kamegai will try to test Gomez and lure him in a fan-friendly slugfest if he can, but the Japanese fighter will also be ready to adjust if his opponent decides to box and moves around the ring.
?If he wants to box me, it will be different fight. I can?t promise anything but it will depend on how he comes out.?
Nonetheless, Kamegai made a promise, ?Either way, I will make it a fight that the fans will enjoy.?
