OPBF NO. 3 LAURO KO?S JAPAN?S HAYAKAWA IN REMATCH

Despite his comparatively poor record of 13 wins against 16 losses and 4 draws with just 3 knockouts, unheralded Filipino Roque Lauro who is ranked No. 3 by the Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation in the minimumweight division, knocked out Japan?s Daisuke Hayakawa at 1:16 of the third round in Aichi, Japan.
In their first meeting on December 7, 2013 the 29 year old Lauro won a unanimous eight round decision with scores of 77-76, 78-74 and 78-75 for the fighter from the Katipunan 1, Quezon City Gym of Cucoy Elorde, one of the daughters of the late Gabriel ?Flash? Elorde.
Cucoy told the New Standard/Viva Sports that Lauro has no manager and added, ?I just give him a place to train and work. He?s a trainer in my gym, that?s it. The entire purse from the fight is his.?
Cucoy Elorde said the one who fixed Lauro's papers was matchmaker Art Monis who is a regular in putting together fight cards on Viva Sports "The Main Event" while the person who took the fighter to Japan was veteran trainer Juanito Ablaca.
Lauro had previously fought WBC super flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai of Thailand and lost a unanimous six round decision on September 6, 2013 demonstrating a fighting heart against a world champion who was three divisions heavier.
In the rematch the tiny Lauro caught the 20 year old Hayakawa with a vicious shot to the liver to leave the Japanese writhing in pain.
Hall of Fame media man and matchmaker Joe Koizumi reported that the ?free-swinging banger impressively knocked out a local prospect with a vicious body shot.?
He said the tiny Filipino displayed his ?power-punching ability as he flattened the local favorite with a single blow.?
Koizumi indicated it was a picturesque knockout as the ?taller and more muscular Hayakawa threw a punch to the face but missed it just when Lauro?s body shot dug into the liver of the Japanese who fell in agony.?
