International boxing manager Gary Hyde, president of Nowhere2Hyde Management, has formally petitioned the World Boxing Association to enforce a mandatory title fight between Hyde's fighter, WBA Super & World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight champion Guillermo ?The Jackal? Rigondeaux (15-0, 10 KO?s) and WBA "regular" 122-pound division champion Scott Quigg (30-0-2, 22 KOs).
In a request to WBA chairman Gilberto Mendoza in which Hyde stated that ?clearly as the Regular champion Quigg is the highest ranked contender for the division? and while he was injured Hyde noted Quigg ?is back in training and there is no reason why bRigondeaux cannot or should not fulfill his mandatory obligations against Quigg.?
Hyde said he was aware that there are ?some discussions about a bout between Quigg and Carl Frampton? and claimed that he had been in touch with the International Boxing Federation and that the IBF ?would not sanction the unification fight with anyone other than thehighest level champion? who is Rigondeaux.
Earlier this month the IBF super-bantamweight champion Frampton scored a fantastic five round stoppage of mandatory American challenger Chris Avalos in what Sky Sports described as ?five fearsome rounds in front of a packed and passionate crowd at Odyssey Arena in Belfast.?
Frampton's right was awesome and although Avalos gamely came forward and occasionally caught Frampton, the Irishman dominated the fight most of the way before referee Howard Foster had no choice but to step in and call a halt.
Hyde respectfully suggested to president Mendoza that it would be best ?to deal with the mandatory issue now? and direct the handlers of Quigg and Rigondeaux ?to begin negotiations.?
Rigondeaux is best known for his stunning unanimous decision victory over five division world champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire in a WBO super bantamweight title fight at New York?s Radio City Music Hall on April 13, 2013 which the former Cuban Olympic gold medalist won despite being dropped by a patented left hook by Donaire in the 10th round.
Hyde also manages WBA Interim cruiserweight champion Youri ?El Toro? Kalenga (21-1, 14 KOs), former WBO middleweight champion and current International Boxing Federation (IBF) No. 1 mandatory contender Hassab NDam N? Jikam (31-1, 18 KOs), and top super bantamweight prospect Marcos Forestal (1-0, 1 KO).
