WBO Oriental super flyweight champion Warlito Parrenas? WBO Intercontinental super flyweight title fight against undefeated Belfast, Northern Ireland fighter Jamie ?The Mexican? Conlan has been postponed for April 25 with the venue now being the O2 Arena in London which is the second largest indoor venue in London with a seating capacity of 20,000.
Parrenas of the United Boxing Gym in Manila who has looked impressive in recent fights on Viva Sports top-rating weekly boxing show ?The Main Event? will travel to Europe for the first time as a pro boxer to battle the up and coming Irish champion Conlan.
British trainer Warren Evison told the Manila Standard/Viva Sports it was a pity the fight was postponed because Parrenas ?is in tip top condition but I think Conlan is getting scared, coming down with viruses. I think its probably a conditioning thing.?
Parrenas who looked ripped and ready after a workout at the spanking new ALA Gym along Balete Drive told us ?it?s a pity the fight was postponed but its okay because it will give me more time to prepare and even better study the style of my opponent.?
Parrenas thinks the postponement was ?a strategy so they can train better.?
He said he is in one hundred percent condition and has had some solid sparring and is now at 122 pounds which means he doesn?t have to reduce too much to make the 115 limit.
Parrenas said ?I?m excited to win and fight for the world title since this fight against Conlan is a title eliminator.?
He confessed he was ?feeling a little nervous but its normal? since he is fighting in a world title eliminator in Europe although when he was in the national amateur team he travelled to Europe.
Parrenas said ?this is the toughest fight of my career.?
The 31 year old Parrenas has a record of 23-6 with 20 knockouts and has won his last six fights, five by stoppage since losing by a 1st round knockout to tough Mexican Oscar Blanquet in a ten round bout on June 25, 2012 at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo when Blanquet ended the fight in 33 seconds of the opening round with a vicious left hook.
Parrenas was at that time fighting out of Japan using the name Wars Katsumata but since being taken over by the United Boxing Gym, he dropped the name and picked up the monicker ?Cowboy? and has shown great promise.
In his last fight Parrenas won by a stunning 1st round knockout over Indonesian journeyman Hengky Baransano on December 9, 2014 in a successful defense of the vacant WBO Oriental title he won when another Indonesian Junior Bajawa retired in round six on June 7, 2014.
