Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has branded WBO No. 1 ranked Rey ”Boom Boom” Bautista “a hot prospect” and a future world champion in a conversation with Greg Leon of Boxing Talk.

Schaefer described the emerging Filipino ring sensation who battles WBO No. 2 Sergio Medina of Argentina in a super bantamweight title eliminator on the undercard of the classic showdown between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Myweather Jr at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 5 as “a young, aggressive fighter and is a puncher” who sold over 25,000 tickets for his last fight on the main event of the “Moment of Truth” card at the Cebu City Sports Complex on February 24.

Schaefer said Bautista’s fights have been shown on national TV which included the “Moment of Truth” which was telecast by the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN which turned in remarkable prime time ratings that were higher than the entertainment programs on rival networks and on the ”Main Event” the popular top-rated weekly boxing show of Viva Sports over RPN 9.

Schaefer said “people can expect many great things “from the 20 year old Bautista who has a record of 22-0 with 17 knockouts.

The Golden Boy CEO brushed aside claims that the undercard of the De La Hoya-Mayweather lacked star power and indicated “the idea was to give two of our rising stars (The other being Rocky Juarez) a platform and everyone will see on May 5 that they are in tough fights.” Schaefer said putting on exciting fights card after card is “becoming a trademark of Golden Boy Promotions and this is no exception.”
