
BIG BOYS BATTLE IN ANGONO ON SUNDAY

The big boys in the heavyweight division battle on Sunday at the Angono Sports Complex in which Japan?s Rio Hidaka who weighed in at 219 pounds faces Indonesia?s David Koswara who tipped the scales at 229 pounds to give him a ten pound advantage.
The weigh in was held at the Angono Public Market with Viva Sports covering the fight card for its top rated weekly boxing show ?The Main Event? telecast on Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. with a replay at 10:30 a.m on Sundays over Pinoy Box Office on Sky Cable.
The boxing promotion staged by Aljoe Jaro is sponsored by Barista Choi Vending Solutions Inc ?Kapeng Vendo Maasahan Ng Pilipino? in cooperation with Mayor Geraldo Calderon.
Japan?s 34 year old Hidaka who is the Japan Boxing Commission No. 8 rated fighter Rio Hidaka and the rugged Kosawara who is 5 years older at 39 will figure in the first genuine heavyweight clash since the famed ?Thrilla in Manila? between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier at the Araneta Coliseum on October 1, 1975.
In the other title showdown for the vacant WBC Asia Boxing Council Continental super lightweight crown another Japanese Takamori Akita will clash with Filipino Dizon Cag-ong while former world champion Sonny Boy Jaro should have no trouble in handling Albert Alcoy in an eight round ?stay busy? fight.
Hidaka who has a record of 8 knockouts in 10 wins with just 2 defeats is heavily favored to prevail over Koswara of Indonesia who has a record of 11 wins as against 12 losses, 2 draws with 4 wins coming by way of knockouts.
Akita who has a record of 7 knockouts in 9 wins with 4 losses and 1 draw is also favored to overcome the challenge of Cag-ong who can punch as shown by his 8 knockouts in 14 wins but has 12 losses against his name.
Super flyweight Sonny Boy Jaro who has a record of 38-13-5 with 27 big knockouts including a sensational 6th round upset stoppage of WBC ?Fighter of the Year? Pongsaklek Wonjongkam should have another good workout against Alcoy whose record is 14-21-7 with 4 knockouts.
Another promising Japanese fighter on the card is undefeated flyweight Kyoto Otsuka who is 5-0 with 3 knockouts in a rematch with veteran Ricky Oyan over whom he scored a 3rd round TKO last November while junior lightweight Kenichi Yamaguchi (17-3-2, 4 KO?s) clashes with Indonesia?s Hendrick Barongsay (28-20-3 with 17 knockouts in a six round bout.
The fight card which is heavily loaded with foreign fighters will also showcase three Korean boxers.
