SINGWANCHA?S REQUEST TO USE THE SINGWANCHA NAME FOR SEVERAL FILIPINO BOXERS HAS BEEN TURNED DOWN BY BOXREC.COM

Thailand?s Naris Singwancha hasn?t given up on his efforts to have several Filipino boxers whom he supports, carry the Singwancha name instead of their real family names.
Once again his request coursed through well known promoter/manager Aljoe Jaro following a luncheon meeting at the Twin Tower hotel in Bangkok on Sunday to Boxrec.com?s Jeremy Lantz, chief boxing editor for the Philippines has been rejected.
In an email to Jaro and Singwancha as well as Games and Amusements Board Boxing Division chief Dr. Nasser Cruz with a copy furnished to this reporter, Lantz said:
?I do understand the situation that you are requesting in regards to changing the names of Philippine boxers using the manager/promoters name Singwancha.
"As the honorable and much respected Mr. Ronnie Nathanielsz has stated:
"'Filipinos, just like other peoples with a sense of heritage and history, must surely consider their family names precious and something not to be trifled with or peddled at a price.
It is for this reason that Filipino parents, fathers in particular, who always long for a son (although they welcome their daughters just as much) because sons carry the family name from one generation to another.'
"Indeed, Kabalarian Philosophy states that 'the power of a name and its value has long been immortalized in prose, poetry and religious ceremony. Everyone recognizes himself or herself by name.'
"Substituting a fighter?s family name with that of someone else ? Singwancha to be specific ? is worse than death because a family name in many respects is sacred and means everything."
Lantz told Aljoe Jaro and Singwancha ?I do know that you both also agree with Mr. Nathanielsz philosophy, but are trapped between business and ethics. Boxers, like soldiers, are to be held in the utmost respect. As their lives hang in the balance every time they step into the squared ring for battle. The fabric of their DNA is that of a Philippine warrior and their proper birth names give their family and nation pride, Just as the name Sonny Boy Jaro will never be forgotten in the Jaro household. But will the world ever know current Thai boxer Sirimongkol Singwancha (83-2, 54KO) as Sirimongkol Eaimthuam?"
Lantz quoted Thomas Jefferson who wrote: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." This must apply to man not being stripped of his birth name in order for the accolades of that man's successes to be directed towards his manager/promoter. I sometimes wonder if Mr. Singwancha would be willing to change his God Given name. His name is much respected and holds great sway in his business endeavors.
"Again I greatly respect Mr. Singwancha for his endless determination to better the lives of these boxers by giving them the opportunity to excel in their beloved sport of boxing. If there were more promoter/managers like Mr. Singwancha surely the Philippines would rule the boxing world. I also understand that the question that is repeatedly asked of me (To change the names of the boxers to Singwancha) is a question of business and is clearly not intentionally meant to be detrimental to Philippine boxer's legacies, but I can promise you that it would be the undoing of Philippine pride & credibility as well as creating a mess in boxrec.com(such as what is currently happening in Thailand traditional boxing with the constant name changes associated with Thai boxer's sponsor/manager/ promoter names constantly being substituted at the same frequency as an exchange rate) instead of using birth names for Thai boxers.?
